Fête for string orchestra

(2018) 6'

Commissioned by Temple University Preparatory Division

Program note

Fête was commissioned for the Youth Chamber Orchestra, Aaron Picht conductor, by the Temple University Music Preparatory Division in honor of its Fiftieth Anniversary.

The work is celebratory in nature and has a strong concertante element, i.e. solo opportunities for the first chair players that interact with the full ensemble. The piece is based on four rising notes and transformations of that tetrachord that are either expressive or energetic in ways that remain accessible to young players. The work was premiered on December 8, 2018 by the YCO, Aaron Picht conductor. Materials available from the composer.
