Program note↓
Composed as an unaccompanied choral prelude to a performance of Orff’s Carmina Burana, this work sets the Latin text inscribed on the wheel of Fortune reproduced on the score cover of the Orff publication: Regno, regnavi, tum fine regno, regnabo (I reign, I reigned, my reign is finished, I shall reign). Commissioned by the Mendelssohn Club of Philadelphia, Alan Harler music director, the brief work served as a danced, processional prelude to its performances of Carmina Burana, choreographed by Leah Stein, on November 17-19, 2006 at Girard College Chapel, Philadelphia PA. The work is pitched in A, serving as a dominant preparation for the Orff’s opening D minor. Materials available from the composer.
